Give guests four to eight weeks to reply: send invitations 8–12 weeks before the wedding and set the RSVP deadline about four weeks before the day. Send one wedding RSVP reminder 10–14 days before that deadline, a personal nudge in its final week, and call anyone still silent once it has passed.

Below: deadline dates for seven 2027 weddings, the reminder schedule and 25 messages. The whole reply process is in our guide to digital wedding invitations with RSVP.

How long to give guests to RSVP for a wedding

Give guests four to eight weeks between receiving the invitation and the reply-by date. Work back from your caterer: reply-by = the final-numbers date minus two weeks.

Greenvelope's 2026 benchmark of 70,624 events found the median wedding heard back from 88.9% of its guest list (one service's own data). On a list of 150, that leaves about 17 people to chase. For month-by-month dates, see when to send wedding invitations.

Season barely matters: across all event types, monthly reply rates ranged from 83.3% (December) to 86.8% (September).

When to send a wedding RSVP reminder

Send the first wedding RSVP reminder 10–14 days before the deadline, only to guests who haven't replied. To follow up on wedding RSVPs:

  1. Reply-by minus 10–14 days: a gentle reminder (messages 1–6).
  2. Reply-by minus 3 days: a personal nudge from whoever knows the guest best (7–16).
  3. Around the reply-by date: one last message, picked from 17–20.
  4. The week after: phone calls (21–22).
  5. Two weeks before the wedding: final numbers to the caterer.

Message guests one by one, never in a group chat. On Veiloria, the guest list manager in your portal shows who hasn't replied and sends each guest their own link again on WhatsApp (how Veiloria works).

How to politely remind guests to RSVP

A polite RSVP reminder message names the guest, carries the link, gives the date in words and asks one thing. A reason helps; blame never does. The messages use a June 12 wedding, a May 15 deadline and Elise & Konrad, our demo couple from Conte.

First gentle reminders (6)

What to do when guests don't respond to your RSVP

When a guest never replies, check the invitation reached them, then call; don't count silence as a yes or a no. Often it's an old number or a buried link, so resend by another channel first.

Who is silentWhat usually works
Close familyA parent or sibling calls; hold their places meanwhile
FriendsA voice note (message 11), then a call
Older relativesA call, replying on their behalf (script 22)
A guest's plus-oneAsk the guest who brings them
Silent after two callsLeave them out of the final numbers, tell them kindly, ask the caterer how late a place can be added

More unwritten rules are in digital wedding invitation etiquette.

Frequently asked questions

How long do you give guests to RSVP for a wedding?

Four to eight weeks: send invitations 8–12 weeks before the wedding and set the deadline about four weeks before the day. For a destination wedding, send 3–4 months ahead with a deadline about six weeks out.

When should you send RSVP reminders?

Send the first reminder 10–14 days before the reply-by date, only to guests who haven't answered. Then a personal nudge in the final week, and calls after the deadline.

How do you politely remind guests to RSVP?

Message each guest individually, with their link, the date in words and one clear ask. Give a reason, such as the seating plan, and leave out any blame.

What do you do if a guest doesn't RSVP?

Resend the invitation by another channel, then call. If there's still nothing by the caterer's deadline, leave them out of the final numbers and tell them kindly.

Can guests RSVP after the deadline?

Usually, if the caterer can still add them; the reply-by date is for your planning, not a locked door. On a Veiloria invitation, replies stay open after the reply-by date, and guests can change their answer from the same link.

Should you count a non-reply as a no?

Not until you've tried to reach them: silence is unknown, not an answer. A no counted too early can leave a guest without a seat; a yes pays for an empty place.
