Custom digital wedding invitations are made by a designer for one wedding: you send a brief, the designer composes the invitation, and you correct private proofs until you approve it and share one link. A personalized design reaches its first proof in one to two weeks; a bespoke one, begun on a blank page, runs on a schedule agreed before work starts.

Below: the three levels, the process, a brief checklist, a timeline, the cost and 12 ideas.

What is a custom digital wedding invitation?

A custom digital wedding invitation is an invitation your guests open from a private link, designed or adapted by a person for your wedding alone and proofed with you before anyone sees it. It is the opposite of a template you fill in yourself, as our Canva vs custom digital wedding invitations comparison shows.

A bespoke digital wedding invitation is the fullest form of custom: an original invitation created from a blank page, with no existing design underneath. In tailoring, a bespoke suit is cut from your measurements, not altered from a pattern. Our guide to luxury digital wedding invitations covers what hand design adds.

Custom vs bespoke: three levels of personal

Personalized invitations change the words, redesigned invitations change the art, and bespoke invitations start with nothing to change. Paper stationers draw the same lines: Zola's cost guide (updated February 2026) separates semi-custom designs, personalized with your details, from fully custom artwork made for one wedding.

One honest detail: extras on a personalized design, such as a painted venue, change the cover only. A new interior needs a redesign.

How custom digital wedding invitations are made, step by step

A custom digital invitation is made in eight steps, from a two-minute order to free updates until the wedding, and your approval is the gate before any guest sees it. This is how our atelier works, as set out on how it works.

1. Choosing

Pick a plan and a design, or the design later. Ordering takes two minutes: two names and an email. On Bespoke there is no design to pick: the blank page is the point.

2. The briefing

Your private portal opens the moment you pay, and the briefing arrives by email within a day. There is no form with forty fields.

3. Your details and photographs

Send your details at your own pace. Photographs upload as JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF, up to 20 MB each and 40 in all; on Bespoke, your printed invitation too (up to 12 files). Timing is counted from when complete details and materials arrive.

4. The design

Your designer composes it by hand: 7–14 days to a first proof, or 1–4 days with Express (+$99). Bespoke follows an agreed schedule, without Express. Carré turns that craft into a design: a silk scarf composed for two people, its eight cartouches holding the scenes of their day.

The unfolded scarf

Carré

A silk carré printed for one couple, untied from its twilly

A heritage silk scarf composed for the two of you, in navy, scarf orange and emerald, folded in quarters on navy felt and tied with a twilly. Your guests untie the knot and the carré unfolds in two great swings of silk, landing on the felt as your names print into its medallion, screen by screen, and the silk breathes under the light. Its eight cartouches hold the scenes of your day, and a touch zooms into each one. Then every section keeps the maison’s craft: a countdown in printed medallions, a squeegee pulled across raw silk to print the last colour and reveal the date, the designer’s maquette for your story, your photographs in gilt frames hung on ribbon bows, the notice for the day, pocket squares for the notes and a reply tied with a bow, until the carré folds itself again.

5. Proofs

You open the proof in a private preview and send comments: 2 rounds on Essential, 4 on Premium, 7 on Bespoke. A round is one set of comments sent together.

6. Revisions

A new proof follows each round, and the portal keeps count ("Revision rounds: 2 of 4 used").

7. Approval and sharing

Nothing is shared until you approve it. Then you send one link by WhatsApp, email or message, with a QR code ready to print. With the guest list manager, each guest's personal link greets them by name.

8. Updates until the day

Replies arrive live. Times, addresses and wording update free until the wedding, on the same link, which stays online for at least 12 months afterward.

What to send your invitation designer: a brief checklist

A complete brief covers names, date, venues, timings, photographs, sections, languages and three words for the mood; sent in one go, it brings the first proof closer to finished.

The facts

  • Your names exactly as they should appear, with "&" or "and"
  • Date, start times and the venue's time zone
  • Each venue's name and full address
  • The program, hour by hour
  • Who is hosting, and your wording (our wedding invitation wording guide has examples for every host)
  • A reply-by date, about four weeks before the wedding

The pictures

  • Original photographs, not screenshots or messaging-app copies
  • The venue, ideally at the hour of the ceremony
  • For a recreation: the printed suite shot flat in daylight, or the printer's PDF

The feeling and the structure

  • Three words for the mood: "candlelit, hushed, Parisian" says more than "elegant"
  • Two or three colors, and the dress code word for word
  • References that are not invitations: the dress fabric, a painting, an heirloom
  • Anything that must not appear
  • Your sections in order, your languages, your reply questions and your send date

How long does a custom digital invitation take?

A custom digital invitation takes 7–14 days to a first proof once your details are complete, plus your revision rounds; a bespoke one runs on a schedule agreed before the designer begins.

Work back from the send date: 8–12 weeks before the wedding, or 3–4 months if guests travel, as our guide on when to send wedding invitations explains. Here is the plan for Saturday 26 June 2027, the date of our demo couple Alix and Hugo in Normandy:

Paper is slower: Zola notes that vendors usually need 3–4 weeks for production alone, with rush orders adding 30–50%.

How much does a custom digital wedding invitation cost?

At Veiloria, a custom digital wedding invitation costs $199 personalized (Essential), $599 redesigned (Premium) or $999 bespoke, paid once with unlimited guests and sends, or the equivalent in your currency. Paper grows with every guest: Zola names guest count the biggest driver of an invitation budget and places fully custom artwork, letterpress and foil in luxury budgets above $700.

The price follows how much of the invitation is drawn for you:

  • Essential prices extras one by one: your venue painted (+$55), an animated cover (+$65), music (+$19), a monogram (+$29), a Save the Date (+$79), the guest list manager (+$65).
  • Premium includes all of those. Essential with every extra costs less ($477); what Premium adds is the redesign, 4 rounds and 3 languages.
  • Bespoke adds editorial art direction, unlimited languages, a Save the Date designed from scratch, your own domain and your paper invitation recreated.

12 personalized wedding invitation ideas to make it yours

The most personal invitations carry something only your wedding has: your place, your people, your languages or your story.

  1. Your venue, painted by hand on the cover.
  2. A palette from the room: two colors from the flowers or the dress code.
  3. A monogram: your initials drawn as one mark, repeated throughout.
  4. Your song, playing as guests open it; our guide to digital wedding invitations with music explains how.
  5. Your story, in your voice. Alix and Hugo's begins with her drawing his stud farm for a scarf.
  6. Every guest's language, shown to each automatically, Arabic right to left.
  7. Their name on their link, with exactly the plus-ones you chose.
  8. Reply questions that fit: children, dietary needs, "A song that will get you dancing".
  9. Sections in your order: a welcome party, transport, where to stay, a FAQ.
  10. An heirloom, drawn in: a grandmother's lace, a family crest, the ring.
  11. An address of your own, such as anaandluis.com, included with Bespoke.
  12. Your paper suite, twinned: printed invitations recreated in digital, with replies built in.

Do you need bespoke? When a collection design is enough

A collection design is enough when you love it as it is and your wedding fits its world; choose bespoke when no existing design is your wedding.

Before choosing a blank page, look through the 43 designs: the nearest one, redrawn around your venue and colors, is often closer than you expect.

How to work with an invitation designer: 8 tips

The best invitations come from couples who send everything at once, comment in batches and say what they love.

  1. Send everything together. A missing address can hold a proof.
  2. Batch your comments. Gather both your notes before sending a round.
  3. Review on your phone, where guests will open it.
  4. Be specific. "Warmer gold, less pink in the roses" beats "make it nicer".
  5. Say what you love, so the designer keeps it.
  6. Collect family comments first, inside your round.
  7. Check facts against their sources: addresses from the venue, names as each person writes them.
  8. Don't wait for every detail. Updates are free after sending, so a hotel block can follow.

Every invitation from our atelier is made this way, one couple at a time. When you are ready for a blank page, begin a Bespoke invitation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between custom and bespoke wedding invitations?

Bespoke is the fullest kind of custom: a custom invitation can be an existing design personalized or redesigned for you, while a bespoke one is created from a blank page. At Veiloria, Essential is personalized, Premium is redesigned and Bespoke begins blank, with your own designer.

How long does a custom digital invitation take?

A custom digital invitation takes 7–14 days to a first proof once your details and materials are complete, plus your revision rounds. Express shortens that to 1–4 days on Essential and Premium for $99. Bespoke runs on an agreed schedule and includes a Save the Date, so order before the usual 6–12 month Save the Date window.

How many revisions are included?

Veiloria includes 2 rounds of revisions on Essential, 4 on Premium and 7 on Bespoke. A round is one set of comments sent together, so ten notes in one message count once. Wherever you order, ask what counts as a round.

Can you recreate our paper invitation digitally?

Yes, with Bespoke: you upload your printed invitation, up to 12 files, and your designer recreates it in digital. Photograph each piece flat in daylight, or send the printer's PDF.

How much does a custom digital wedding invitation cost?

At Veiloria, a custom digital wedding invitation costs $199 personalized, $599 redesigned or $999 bespoke, paid once, or the equivalent in your currency. Every plan includes unlimited guests and the RSVP. Zola (2026) places fully custom paper suites in luxury budgets above $700, rising with guest count.

What do I need to send the designer?

Send your names as they should appear, the date, venues with addresses, timings, photographs, sections, languages and three words for the mood. Add colors, dress code and reply questions; photographs go straight into your portal.
